We are currently accepting applications for the position of Lineman - Apprentice or Journeyman.
Apprentice Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in the installation of transformers, hardware and crossarms with supervision.
Assist the crew whenever necessary setting poles, guys and framing poles with supervision.
In the event that the Apprentice Lineman is troubleshooting and assistance from the construction crew is unavailable, will assist in the framing and setting of poles.
Helps in the installation of lightning arresters and fuse jacks and the changing out of circuit breakers on trouble calls with supervision.
Climbs poles and assists with the maintenance and construction jobs where new poles are not required, with supervision.
Takes trouble calls, performs troubleshooting, determines and corrects problems with supervision.
Operates digger trucks, bucket trucks and trenchers when on trouble calls and the normal operator is not available.
Assists in patrolling of lines watching for bad poles, crossarms and bad right-of-ways.
Progress toward attainting Journeyman Lineman status in a timely manner through on-the-job and formal training.
Journeyman Duties and Responsibilities:
Sets and installs poles and installs crossarms, hardware, transformers, guys and frame poles.
Installs lightning arresters, circuit breakers, regulators, air break switches, sectionalizers, by-pass switches, station regulators, station breakers and other types of special equipment.
Performs construction and maintenance on energized and de-energized lines, climbing poles and structures and works out of bucket trucks.
Operates such equipment as digger derricks, bucket trucks and trenchers.
Takes trouble calls, performs troubleshoots, determining and clearing up problems.
Inspects poles and equipment, correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions.
Continues to perform duties of all other job classifications inferior to this classification.
Reporting Relationships:
Field Superintendent: To discuss assignments, methods and techniques as part of the Lineman Training Program.
Crew Chief Lineman and Lead Lineman: To seek advice on job duties.
Minimum Apprentice Qualifications:
High school diploma required.
Must complete the apprentice program in order to handle the responsibilities of the Journeyman position in a safe and efficient manner.
Must be capable of learning the proper methods and principles involved in the installation and maintenance of poles, towers, line equipment and hardware, transformers, conductors, hotline methods; tools and equipment, oil circuit breakers, regulators and capacitors, metering; electric systems; live line maintenance; troubleshooting; underground distribution.
Must be able to develop the skills necessary to properly install and maintain all the above mentioned equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Must be trained in first aid and safety classes.
Must be able to work outside in all types of inclement weather.
Subject to irregular hours for emergencies, up to but not limited to 16-18 hour shifts.
Must be able to be on an on-call basis.
Must obtain and maintain a valid CDL operator’s license.
Minimum Journeyman Qualifications:
High school diploma required.
Must have satisfactorily completed a four-year apprenticeship program, passing all test and requirements.
Must have an effective working knowledge of the construction and maintenance of electric distribution and transmission lines and substations.
Must have a thorough knowledge of REA construction specifications and the National Electrical Safety Code.
Should have knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
Must have a working knowledge of system maps and service area.
Must be able to properly install and maintain all distribution and transmission equipment and apparatus in a safe and efficient manner.
Must be physically able to climb poles, lift and carry heavy equipment and work in awkward positions.
Must be qualified in CPR and pole top resuscitation.
Must possess and maintain a valid CDL operator’s license.
Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions.
Subject to stressful conditions and irregular hours for emergencies situations.
Must be able to be on an on-call basis.
Must live within a reasonable distance of the reporting site.
Preferred Qualifications (for both Apprentice & Journeyman positions):
Possession of valid CDL operator’s license
Prior experience working in construction, utilities, or other physically demanding outdoor environments
