Brazos Electric Power Cooperative is seeking an experienced Supervisor – Substation Protection & Controls Engineering to lead a talented team responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of protection and control systems supporting our high-voltage transmission network.
What You'll Do
Support
Coordinate with project management, System Protection, SCADA, Communications, Civil, Planning, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Oversee engineering design packages, equipment specifications, cost estimates, material tracking, service contracts, and construction schedules.
Manage P&C work orders, parts lists, and project documentation within JD Edwards.
Support procurement by specifying, tracking, and recommending substation equipment and materials.
Provide technical support for relay coordination, grounding, short circuit, arc flash, and fault analysis.
Coordinate engineering activities with external design consultants and third-party partners.
Planning & Analysis
Develop and maintain engineering standards for high-voltage substation protection, control, and ancillary systems.
Lead planning and implementation of improvements to protection and control equipment and technologies.
Stay current on industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices through training, factory visits, and technical conferences.
Maintain professional engineering knowledge and continuing education requirements.
Design
Lead the development and review of substation one-line diagrams, relay functional diagrams, and protection & control designs.
Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and system designs for substation protection, control, and related electrical equipment.
Ensure projects comply with applicable codes, industry standards, and Brazos engineering requirements. Perform technical reviews of system configurations to verify functionality, safety, reliability, and compliance.
Supervision
Lead, coach, and develop the Substation Protection & Controls team to promote safety, collaboration, and high performance.
Partner with leadership and HR on workforce planning, hiring, compensation, employee development, and succession planning.
Drive continuous improvement by implementing standardized processes, sharing knowledge, and improving business practices.
Ensure compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and safety programs while maintaining a positive, accountable work environment.

What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university with an emphasis in Electric Power Systems or Electrical Control Systems.
Minimum 4 years of industry experience and proven success in project management and team leadership.
Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, or the ability to obtain Texas licensure within six months of employment.
Preferred Experience
High-voltage transmission and substation protection & control design.
Protective relaying and relay coordination principles.
Engineering design standards, construction support, and project management.
Leadership, coaching, and employee development.
Working with multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, contractors, and utility stakeholders.
