Smoky Mountain Country Club is semi-private 18-hole mountain golf course, with driving range and practice facilities, located in Whittier, NC. The golf course plays slightly more than 30,000 rounds per year, largely in a golfing season running from March thru November, however the golf course is open year-round.
We are looking for a Golf Course Superintendent who possesses superior knowledge in all facets of turf management, including fertilizer/pesticide applications, golf course turf maintenance and irrigation maintenance/repair (Rainbird). Applicants must have organizational skills and the ability to lead the grounds crew staff, to insure the successful completion of delegated tasks.
Smoky Mountain Country Club’s turf consists of bentgrass greens, Tifway 419 bermuda fairways and a combination of bermuda, zoysia and cool-season grass tee boxes (due to terrain and varying access to sunlight).

Job Requirements
The golf course superintendent is responsible for providing a high quality golf course property for our golfers, which includes the golf course, driving range, chipping area, practice green and limited surrounding grounds.
Candidate must have or be able to obtain a North Carolina Pesticide License.
The following job skills are required from the successful candidate:
Experience growing and maintaining Bermuda grass and bentgrass greens
Knowledge of agronomic practices relating to the health and improvement of grasses on our golf course
Plan the development and implementation of a fertilizer, aeration and pest management program for proper turf grass and plant care
Hire, supervise, train and manage employees
Prepare work schedules for employees
Must be a working superintendent, not a “sit behind the desk” superintendent
Knowledge of watering practices and irrigation systems (Rainbird), including pumps and automatic controls
Callibrate and operate sprayer for pesticide applications
Order all necessary chemicals and fertilizers
Ability to adhere to an annual budget
Properly prepare the course for winter dormancy
Operation of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment
Knowledge of drainage methods
Demonstrate excellent leadership abilities and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to analyze and solve problems, efficiently handle multiple duties simultaneously, and work flexible hours as required by the nature of the golf business.
