The Lovett School seeks an experienced and dynamic math educator to lead our Middle School Mathematics Department. This full-time faculty role combines teaching two sections of math with overseeing curriculum, mentoring nine faculty members, and driving professional development. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, a genuine love of middle schoolers, and a commitment to reaching every learner. Reports to the Assistant Head of Middle School.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
In this leadership role, you will combine active classroom teaching with department-wide oversight of curriculum, faculty, and professional practice.
Departmental leadership
Lead, oversee, and evaluate the department’s curricular design, opportunities, and instructional effectiveness consistent with Lovett’s core values, mission, and whole child education model.
Provide primary mentoring, supervision, assessment, and evaluation of department faculty in coordination with the Assistant Head of Middle School and Head of Middle School.
Recruit and hire new department members in partnership with the Assistant Head of Middle School.
Foster constructive communication across all school constituencies and ensure efficient departmental operations.
Serve as liaison between the department, school administration, and other departments to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
Classroom teaching
Teach two sections of middle school math courses.
Design purposeful curriculum using multi-modal instruction and a variety of assessments to reach a diverse community of learners (academically, culturally, racially, religiously, and otherwise).
Engage, inspire, and challenge students consistent with Lovett’s core values and whole child model.
Community & professional responsibilities
Participate in faculty, department, team, and grade-level meetings as called.
Fulfill additional duties as assigned, including occasional evening and weekend responsibilities (e.g., parent night, graduation events, admission open houses, student or faculty interviews).
WHO YOU ARE
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in mathematics or a related field.
Self-directed with strong time management skills and the ability to manage concurrent responsibilities.
Genuine love of working with middle school students, with the ability to balance care and compassion with challenge and accountability.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
Strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employ a growth mindset, and engage in ongoing professional development during the school year and summer.
Commitment to developing self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence.
Ability to purposefully design curriculum, instruction, and assessment to reach a diverse community of learners.
Demonstrated professionalism, consistent application of school policies, and regular and reliable attendance.
Preferred qualifications
Master’s degree in mathematics education or a related field.
Prior experience in a department leadership, curriculum coordination, or instructional coaching role.
Experience teaching in an independent or college-preparatory school setting.
