Job Summary: As a Project Design Manager at IEF, you will be accountable for the design execution and overseeing of the design phase of complex curtain wall and exterior faced projects. This role is responsible for managing design schedules, supervising internal and external design teams, and ensuring high-quality submittals and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Accountabilities:
Maintain a structured and organized project folder using server or cloud systems, ensuring accessible and up-to-date design documentation.
Develop and maintain the project submittal schedule in coordination with the production, installation, and material lead times. Collaborate with Project Manager, Materials Manager, System Design Lead, and Fabrication Lead to align design deliverables with project milestones.
Lead internal or external design teams to meet project deadlines. Delegate tasks, provide supervision, and support the professional growth of junior team members.
Review and approve all system/shop drawings, thermal analyses, and structural calculations. Identify and escalate design risks to the Project Manager and collaborate on resolution strategies.
Prepare and submit samples, material specifications, LEED documentation, shop drawings, RFIs, and engineering submittals while maintaining accurate logs. Ensure alignment with project specifications and architectural intent.
Perform final checks of fabrication models to ensure consistency with shop drawings, RFIs, and the overall design intent before release to production.
Interpret and utilize architectural, structural, and specification documents. Submit and log RFIs and ensure design packages comply with all project documentation.
Actively participate in Design Assist meetings. Collaborate with business development, project teams, and external partners to manage project scope and client expectations.
Authorities:
Be able to manage an internal or external design team to maintain the project schedule. This includes both delegating tasks, guiding, and supervising team members and helping them grow professionally.
Must assess design risks and communicate to Project manager there is a problem. Together they must proactively work toward a solution.
Must thoroughly review all system/shop drawings, while also doing a general review of thermal analyses, and structural calculations prior to them being submitted. The DM is ultimately responsible for design
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have between 5 and 10- years of experience in the curtain wall industry, having experience managing a team of designers and understands what it takes to run the design side of a project
Proven experience managing internal/external design teams
Proficient understanding of 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and fabrication tools (AutoDesk Suite; CAS, Inventor, NavisWorks/ Microsoft Office; Outlook, Excel, Word., Teams/Rhino*not required but a plus/Revu Bluebeam)
Strong organizational skills and an ability to maintain structured digital projects
Salary: $110,000-$140,000
Location: NYC, Boston MA, Hartford, CT, Remote
Schedule: (Hybrid/Remote) Monday-Friday 8:00am5:00pm. If remote, position will require periodic travel
