Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Facility Services Technician for the Maintenance Department. This is a grant-funded position. The Facilities Technician - General Maintenance is responsible for performing a wide range of general maintenance tasks, utilizing practical knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and resolve campus facility issues in a timely and effective manner. This position requires work to be completed safely, cooperatively, and competently to support the goals of the Facility Services Department and meet the expectations outlined in the employment contract. As an essential employee of the college, the Facilities Technician plays a critical role in maintaining campus operations.
Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and modifications within in-house capabilities to ensure proper facility operation.
Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with students, faculty and staff while performing assigned duties.
Willing to performing preventive maintenance on roofing systems and overseeing roof repair projects to ensure quality and durability.
Conduct preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and Facility Services Department specifications.
Perform and/or assist with maintenance and repairs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as other general maintenance tasks as needed.
Demonstrate initiative by ensuring timely, continuous, and efficient operations using sound judgment and minimal supervision.
Maintain workshop, storerooms, and all mechanical/equipment rooms in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
Adjust and modify work schedules as needed based on seasonal demands, institutional needs, or direction from the Facility Services Director or other designated college officials.
Respond promptly and cooperatively to reassignments in support of temporary or emergency maintenance needs.
Ability to work independently at offsite locations with minimal supervision, demonstrating reliability, accountability, and sound decision-making.
Maintain respectful and professional working relationships with all employees, including immediate peers.
Be available to work on-call shifts and overtime during evenings and weekends as needed.
Wear college-issued uniforms during regular work hours, maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
Use all DTCC-provided safety equipment as required by OSHA, the DTCC Safety Committee, and the Facility Services Department.
Properly maintain and operate all college-issued communication equipment in compliance with FCC regulations and departmental policies.
Follow all work assignments and instructions provided by the supervisor.
Comply with work order procedures as outlined by the Facility Services Department and supervisory direction.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Facility Services, Chief Campus Operations Officer, or the President.
High School diploma or GED.
Valid North Carolina driver's license.
Position designated as essential personnel, meaning it is critical to emergency operations and must be able to report to work after normal business hours because of an emergency or disaster event.
Work Experience:
General experience in one or all the following areas, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, grounds equipment and general maintenance repairs.
Preferred Work Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building construction and/or renovation project work.
Demonstrated experience in customer communication, overseeing the completion of work, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction with services provided.
