The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking an experienced engineer and a dynamic manager, with a passion for public service and a proven record of driving solution-oriented initiatives through collaboration and proactive evaluation of situations, to support the largest public transit agency in North America, the NYC Transit Authority.  The NYC Transit Authority Department of Subways operates more than 6,553 subway cars, traveling across 472 subway stations and over 665 miles of track, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Maintenance Officer, the Chief Engineering Officer will provide executive direction of all technical and engineering services, as well as architectural and communication units and hourly inspection forces, develop a 5-year Capital program and a 20-year Capital needs analysis plan for the Maintenance of Way division of the NYC Transit Authority Department of Subways, interface with the office of System Safety to ensure code and environmental compliance, and oversee staff development, safety and performance.

In addition, this key role will coordinate the repair, rehab modification and expansion of all right-of-way and Department of Subways (DOS) facilities and systems, and be responsible for issues concerning Track, Infrastructure & Signals, engineering and technical support for cooper and fiber telecommunications, radio frequency communications and for DOS Computer-Based Train Control systems (CBTC), including new technology train control systems.  Additionally, the Chief Engineering Officer will prepare specifications/drawings for contracts providing maintenance, service and /or construction for track, signals, power & communication systems, facilities and infrastructure.  The Chief Engineering Officer is also responsible for Office Planning and Environmental/Code compliance.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 15 years of full-time relevant experience of which 10 years must have been in a managerial/supervisory/administrative capacity.
• Valid NY State Professional Engineer (P.E. License)
