The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Columbia University?s College of Dental Medicine (CDM) provides instruction to both predoctoral students pursuing a DDS degree, as well as postdoctoral students pursuing specialty degrees or advanced certificates and degrees in general dentistry. As part of the clinical curriculum, CDM runs a teaching clinic where both predoctoral and postdoctoral students see over 30,000 patients annually. Central to the treatment plans for many patients is the provision of various prosthetic devices-- such as crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays?and central to CDM?s curriculum is the delivery of these items through digital technology.
Reporting to faculty who are designated to lead instruction in digital dentistry and working closely with the school?s IT and materials management teams, the Digital Dentistry Technician will support a range of services associated with Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) including the use of intraoral & desktop scanners and the use of both milling machines and 3D printers.
Responsibilities
Management and maintenance of hardware used for digital dentistry (Mill, 3D Printer, Scanner)
Monitoring and supporting the use of all CAD/CAM software for Digital Dentistry
Working with CDM faculty, providing training, feedback and supervision of students using these digital technologies
Working with Faculty and Students to ensure successful completion of digital restorations, including the creation of final product
Perform Esthetic characterization of restorations and train students in this activity as needed
Coordinating with Materials management team to ensure appropriate supplies are available
Informing the providers of the receival, progress, and completion of the laboratory work, including deficiencies in the workflow and providing constructive feedback
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires bachelor?s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in teaching faculty and student in the use of digital technology
Customer service skills
Experience in running a dental laboratory
Other Requirements
Expert knowledge of the creation of dental restoration utilizing digital technology
Substantial experience working in a dental lab utilizing both analog and digital fabrication techniques
Ability to partner with clinicians to produce aesthetically attractive restorations
Experience with CAD/CAM software (Exocad, 3Shape Unite and dental manager)
Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
