GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
Under the general direction of the Crew Leader – The Class B Line Technician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the Generators, Transmission Lines and the Mobile Sub for CEPCI throughout New Horizon Electric Cooperative service area. Responsible for Generators, Line work and Hauling Transformers. Also coordinates general service functions for members of the Cooperative. Conducts safe operating procedures and complies with established regulations and standards.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. The crew leader may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Responsible for self-compliance with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
Performs maintenance on the Generators and T/L within the Company’s service area. Maintenance activities include minor things such as adding oil to the Generators, Regulators and Transformer Bushings.
Works with the crew to ensure compliance with specifications and engineering plans.
Listens in on the morning tailgate meeting for the task that the crew will be working on each day.
Performs daily projects with the crew.
Performs substation inspection once contractors complete the work.
Performs line inspection and reports work that needs to be complete to the crew leader.
Office and Truck storage maintenance.
Maintains Generators.
Works on Energize and de-energized lines as long as he has an A Class Lineman in the bucket or on the pole.
Requisitions equipment parts, materials and equipment needed for maintenance projects.
Determines methods and approaches the completion of construction and maintenance projects. Analyzes problems to determine location and corrective action to be completed.
Develop and maintain relationships with the crew to provide support and information that pertains to the Generators, Transmission and Distribution Lines.
Works with employees on the procedures and practices used by the department.
Reports the repairs of department specialized tools, equipment and vehicles to the crew leader.
Receives, reviews, processes, files, and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as work orders, outage reports, safety reports, Refers to RUS Specification Book, maps, and staking sheets to ensure proper completion of functions.
Remains on-call as needed and/or scheduled. Will have storm restoration and emergency assignments including mobile installation.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Attend Training and Education/Trade conferences as required.
Attend safety meetings.
Submits to a random Drug and Alcohol test per DOT regulations.
Performs other related tasks that are not included, but are within the context of duties defined.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
Requires a Generator, substation and T/L accreditation and/or vocational/technical school education in electrical systems or a related field.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess a valid S.C. commercial driver’s license (CDL).
CPR training
Energized and De -Energize Line work with an A Class Lineman
Pole Top, Bucket and ladder Rescue
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires 4 to 6 years of experience in construction and maintaining Substations, Generation, Transmission and Distribution Lines or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
