THE OPPORTUNITY Deputy Director, Planning & Community Affairs
The Deputy Director will be a highly responsible professional who will direct the planning, design and construction of Airport facilities, ensuring the completion of facilities on schedule and within budget. Work includes the long-range planning for the County Aviation needs and the acquisition of properties and construction of facilities to meet those needs. Managing a team of 18 and a capital program budget of $500M over 5 years, the Deputy Director is responsible for the daily administration of a complex multidisciplinary division under the general supervision of the Senior Deputy Director of Airports. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports and observations of program effectiveness.

Thorough knowledge of Airport planning methods and practices.
Thorough knowledge of capital planning and budgeting for facilities.
Thorough knowledge of (FAA) rules and regulations pertaining to airport planning and design. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of airport management.
Considerable knowledge of architectural practices and procedures and the legal aspects of design and construction.
Considerable knowledge of real property contracts, leases and appraisals.
Knowledge of construction practices and methods.
Ability to negotiate real property and construction contracts.
Ability to plan, direct and review the work of subordinates.
Ability to establish and maintain credible working relationships with elected officials, administrators, department heads, consultants and the public.
Ability to evaluate and review plans for capital projects.
Ability to plan, direct, supervise, coordinate and organize airport development programs and activities.
Ability to develop, prepare and present long range plans and programs.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, stakeholders and the general public.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in Planning, Engineering, Architecture or related field; ten (10) years’ experience in all aspects of airport planning, budgeting and project management; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience at a medium hub or larger airport.
