Job Description Summary | Accountable for supervision and maintenance of all operating units in the SDC, MacInnes Ice Arena, Tech Trails & Recreational Forest, Child Care Center, and Gates Tennis Center during the day. Evening and weekend hours, including staff, security, safety, maintenance, sanitation, customer service and enforcement of SDC, MacInnes Ice Arena, Tech Trails & Recreational Forest, Child Care Center, and Gates Tennis Center policies and procedures. Provide excellent customer service to a wide variety of customers. This position could require split shifts as needed. | Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) | 1. Assist the general public and students with information concerning the SDC, MacInnes Ice Arena, Tech Trails & Recreational Forest, Child Care Center, and Gates Tennis Center operations and services. Resolve complaints and problems when necessary. 2. Assist in the coordination of athletic and special events. 3. Enforce SDC, MacInnes Ice Arena, Tech Trails & Recreational Forest, Child Care Center, and Gates Tennis Center policies and procedures. Ensure conformance to safety, security, and sanitation regulations. 4. Provide excellent customer service to a diverse group of internal and external customers. 5. Identify maintenance and custodial needs. Perform duties with minimum supervision or direction from others. 6. Establish and adjust work assignments to meet operational needs. 7. Maintain inventory and order parts and materials for maintenance and custodial operations. Prepare maintenance and custodial inspection reports. 8. Conduct inspections of storage areas in order to maintain a neat, clean and well-organized area. 9. Perform general maintenance and repair work in the SDC, MacInnes Ice Arena. Tech Trails & Recreational Forest, Child Care Center, and Gates Tennis Center to maintain the various structures including electrical systems, machines, pumps, heating systems, ice plant, storage vault, equipment, plumbing, furniture, windows, etc. 10. Conduct daily inspection of doors, entrances, parking lots, elevators, snow conditions, HVAC equipment temperature control systems, pool systems, ice plant equipment, water systems, and steam systems. 11. Conduct weekly inspections of lighting, roof drains and flashing, cooling systems, chemical treatment, generators and fire systems. 12. Perform various preventative maintenance tasks according to a computerized schedule, and update and improve preventative maintenance when new equipment or procedures are installed. 13. Read and work from blueprints, sketches, schematic diagrams and instruction manuals. Weld and perform carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work. 14. Conduct monthly readings of utility meters, and fire systems, and clean-up mechanical and electrical needs. 15. Operate all pieces of equipment pertaining to the SDC, MacInnes Ice Arena, Tech Trails & Recreational Forest, Child Care Center, and Gates Tennis Center (i.e., Zamboni, groomers, riding floor machines, airlift, etc.). 16. Utilize a network terminal to interface with and operate the building systems HVAC energy management systems. 17. Integrate safety practices into daily activities. 18. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives. 19. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. Functional supervision is exercised over AFSCME employees. Effective supervision is exercised over 15-20 student employees. | Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements) | ? High school diploma, with a minimum of two years in a related trade school or an Associate Degree in Construction Technology or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. | Required Experience (minimum requirements) | ? Four years experience in building operations and maintenance including electrical, mechanical, architectural, plumbing, HVAC, water systems, and refrigeration systems or equivalent. ? Two years experience maintaining and operating a Zamboni. ? Two years experience working with the general public/customers. | Desirable Education and/or Experience | ? Licensed builder, plumber, or electrician. ? Experience using personal computers, including word processing and spreadsheet software. ? Two years experience supervising maintenance/custodial personnel. ? Experience supervising bargaining unit personnel. ? Experience working in an athletic facility. | Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements) | ? Demonstrated knowledge of computers including email and search engines. ? Demonstrated ability to understand and work from blueprints, sketches and schematic diagrams. ? Excellent interpersonal, customer service and oral/written communication skills. ? Demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments. ? Demonstrated ability to learn and follow instructions. ? Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with people in varying situations, and in all areas when assigned. ? Demonstrated understanding of safe operating and maintenance procedures. ? Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and meet Michigan Tech University’s vehicle use requirements. ?
